God the Son, Galatians 4:4-5

But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. Galatians 4:4-5

This is such a simple verse, but the more I read it, the more astounding it is. God the Son subjected himself to the conditions of the world that we all live under in order to rescue us, redeem us, save us, adopt us. If we are adopted, that means we are fully children of God. Not sort of, not partially, not second best, not just-barely-made-it, but instead, we are fully children of God. I don’t know about you, but I often struggle to grasp the full weight of this truth (in fact, I’ll never fully grasp it in this life).

I’ve tried in my own strength to be good enough. It has never worked. Sometimes I still try to rely on my own strength. It still doesn’t work. The great thing about being a child of God is that he doesn’t expect us or want us to be good enough for His family based on our own works or accomplishments (the more we try, the worse it seems to get). We are only good enough to be in His family when we rely on Jesus Christ. So instead of trying to be good enough or strong enough, let’s do the only thing we really can do, trust Christ and follow Him. Understanding that we have God as a loving Dad who cares for us, protects us, and provides for us is powerful. After that, let’s make sure we share the message of divine, eternal adoption with everyone everywhere: locally, nationally, and globally.
